D3 Global, a web3 domain company, has launched the top-level domain for the ApeCoin community.
An announcement made by the company on October 22 noted that the ApeCoin (APE) ecosystem can now utilize the new top-level domain .APE on the recently launched Layer 2 solution, ApeChain.
The Ape Names initiative is the first step in the journey to provide interactive name services for users of this cryptocurrency project.
Community Approves .APE Domain Proposal
D3’s launch of the .APE domain stems from a proposal for the top-level domain that the ApeCoin community approved earlier this year. This vote aligns with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) plan to roll out new top-level domains (TLDs) over the next two years.
According to D3’s announcement, the launch of the .APE top-level domain allows users to purchase and use encoded Ape Names as web3 identifiers. This feature will be available before the next ICANN application round.
Specifically, ApeCoin holders can use encoded names for various purposes, including email addresses, wallet addresses, decentralized infrastructure identifiers, and web3 usernames.
“There is an urgent need for a comprehensive all-in-one naming solution that not only facilitates the growth of the APE brand and community but also ensures future utility for users. The APE Foundation is excited to work closely with D3 to build the future of the internet for Apes by Apes,” said Gerard Hernandez, special council member of the APE Foundation.
D3 will offer the .APE domain to token holders before making it available to the public.
Currently, D3 is the domain partner for several blockchain user communities, including Shiba Inu, Magic Eden, NEAR Protocol, Own The Doge, and Core DAO.
In addition to D3’s presence in this space, other companies are also helping to bring domains to cryptocurrency users, including GoDaddy, Ethereum Name Service, and Unstoppable Domains. In February, GoDaddy and ENS partnered to bring the .eth domain to the community.
